Are motorhomes and travel trailers unsuitable for Russia?

Visitors to our company often mistakenly believe that motorhomes and trailers are difficult to use in Russia because the necessary facilities and infrastructure do not exist. This view is mostly held by people whose only experience of travel is glossy Turkish hotels.

In Europe, parking areas for this type of vehicle are strictly designated. You may stay only at campsites and spend the night only in designated areas near filling stations. Motorhomes—and especially vehicles towing trailers—are prohibited from entering city centers. Special signs banning these vehicles are common in Europe. If you try to spend the night next to a supermarket or in a city parking lot, you may be fined and asked to leave. European motorhome and trailer owners envy us because Russia has virtually none of these restrictions.

You may stop anywhere there is no “No parking” sign: at the parking lot of an upscale hotel beach, at a filling station, next to a hypermarket, or in a parking lot in a historic city center. No one has the right to make you leave, because under Russian law any passenger-car trailer and any motorhome weighing up to 3.5 metric tons is treated as a regular vehicle.

With this kind of vehicle, you can create your own five-star hotel in just 10 minutes, wherever you like, whether or not any infrastructure is available.
