Why do people want to buy a travel trailer or motorhome?
My family and I once decided to travel to Norway in a regular car.
Having rented a house in one of the fishing campsites, we saw a huge number of parked motorhomes and travel trailers. A German couple parked their motorhome next to us. Every morning they went on a small inflatable boat with a small motor to go fishing. And after 2-3 hours, they returned with a huge amount of fish. They were equipped like astronauts. Incredible overalls with some niches, handles, grippers, boots of unusual shape, gloves, etc. In a few days they caught fish, probably as much as a small fishing boat. All the fish they cleaned, carefully placed in boxes with ice, and those, in turn, in the huge trunk of their own motorhome. When they left, they said they had enough fish until next year. All this time we lived in a wooden house and watched as caravaners (people who came with trailers and on motorhomes to rest) lead an active lifestyle – park trailers, install mobile satellite antennas, inflate boats, prepare their fishing tackle, clean their catch, etc. We were terribly jealous of them. And not even because our cabin cost 200 euros per day while their pitch cost only 10. Looking at them, we observed a completely different kind of holiday, not like lying under a palm tree on the beach. This rest somehow organically combined with useful hobbies, activity, elements of adventure, mobility and their own comfort created directly by the caravanners.
Two weeks after returning from Norway, I flew to the United States and there asked my American friend to take me to a salon selling motorhomes and travel trailers (campers). What I saw amazed me. A huge selection of trailers, there were hundreds of them on the site. I was amazed not only by their size, but also by their unusual features, which I had never seen or even imagined. Like slide-outs. After parking the trailer, a press of a button extended sections of the walls on several sides, and the internal area of the travel trailer increased so much that this trailer turned into a huge three-room apartment in which you could arrange a disco.
Especially impressed by the huge double-decker buses that we are used to seeing on excursion routes. Only inside these wonder machines were bedrooms, showers, living rooms, offices, huge toilet rooms and even small pools.
This style of recreation is very much developed in Western countries, especially in the United States. Several times on American roads I have seen motorhomes towing platforms with cars, boats and even helicopters. You can imagine. Someone could arrive for a hunting trip in a motorhome, comfortably settled in some deserted place, climb into the helicopter they had brought along and flew to hunt. And most importantly, it's legal.
Later, traveling with a trailer, I realized that these are completely different emotions and sensations that cannot be conveyed and described. You quickly create comfortable conditions in any place you like. When you wake up in your own bed, you can’t remember where you are. On several occasions I stayed overnight when the outside temperature was minus 10 degrees, turned on the heating in the trailer, satellite TV, and retreated into a private world of my own.
In general, traveling with a trailer or motorhome, you get completely different sensations and emotions.
They cannot be conveyed in words. You have to experience them for yourself.
